How CICO works:

Brief, scheduled breaks during class allow students to recharge and regulate their emotions. Especially helpful for students with attention or self-regulation challenges, structured breaks support academic engagement and reduce disruptions. Make breaks predictable, short, and purposeful to keep students on track. Ideally, breaks happen in the classroom.

Students begin the day with a brief check-in, setting goals and getting encouragement. At day’s end, they check out, reflect on how things went, and plan for tomorrow. CICO helps students reset daily, stay motivated, and build trust with adults.

Social skills groups help students practice critical interpersonal skills like emotional regulation, communication, and conflict resolution. These structured, safe environments offer repeated opportunities to grow peer relationships and succeed socially in school. Keep group sizes small and provide consistent practice to help skills stick.
