Speak With Intention. Lead With Inclusion.
A playbook for Managers who want to do better, not just sound better.
WHY THIS MATTERS
You don’t create inclusive teams by tiptoeing—you do it by speaking with courage, clarity and care. Words can include. Or exclude. What you say—and don’t say—shapes culture. The era of neutral is over. This is about intentional impact. 📌 This Playbook is your toolkit to:
- Hold space across difference
- Repair when things go wrong
- Speak like the inclusive leader you say you are

5 ANCHORS
Say less. Mean more.
5 Anchors of Inclusive Communication
Transparency over Perfection
“I don’t have the perfect words, but I want to try.”
Curiosity over Assumption
“Can I check my understanding before I respond?”
Care over Control
“What support would be most helpful right now?”
Calling In over Calling Out
“Can I offer you some feedback privately?”
Silence with Intention, Not Avoidance
“I need a pause. Let me reflect and come back."
Manager Mindset Reset
Before You Speak, Ask Yourself:
Inclusive communication isn’t just kind. It’s accountable.
Am I showing up for the person—or protecting my image?
Is my tone power-conscious or passive-aggressive?
Am I assuming or asking?

INCLUSIVE PHRASES
Inclusive Phrases That Shift Culture
Swap the usual corporate filler for words that build connection.
Instead of… “Let’s circle back.” “It wasn’t intentional.” “That’s just how they are.” “Let’s be professional.”
Say This… “Can I check in again with more clarity next time?” “Impact matters more than intention—I take responsibility.” “We all shape culture—what are our standards?” “Let’s talk about how to stay respectful and real.”
Feedback Scripts
Feedback Scripts: From Awkward to Accountable
When someone crosses a line (bias, misgendering, etc.): “Hey, I wanted to pause and address what just happened. It might not have been your intention, but it landed as exclusionary. Can we talk about it?” When giving performance feedback without bias: “Here’s what I observed, how it impacts our goals, and how I’d like to support you moving forward.” When you’re not sure what to say: “I’m still learning how to talk about this in the most inclusive way. But I want you to know I’m here and willing to learn.”
MEETING Scripts
Meeting Scripts & Interruptions
Use these in real-time. Don’t freeze—frame it. “Let’s pause—I noticed someone was interrupted.” “I’d love to hear [Name] finish their thought.” “We haven’t heard from [Name]—would you like to add anything?” 🤐 Also important: “Feel free to pass. No pressure to share.”
LANGUAGE SELF-AUDIT
Language Self-Audit
Swipe Through & Reflect (interactive card stack)
Do I use gender-neutral terms (e.g. “everyone,” “folks,” “partner”)?
Do I avoid terms with racist, ableist or fatphobic origins?
Do I ask people how they want to be referred to—or assume?
