Little Women: Chapter 13

This week we are reading Chapter 13: Castles in Air. Read the chapter in your book or listen to the narrated video. Take notes:

  • What do Laurie and the sisters dream about for their future in this chapter?
  • Why do you think the chapter is called “Castles in the Air”?

Forces and Motion

The Aztec Sun God

According to Aztec legend, when the gods needed someone to become the sun and light up the world, Nanahuatzin, though poor and humble, stepped into the fire and sacrificed himself. Because of his courage, he became the sun god, bringing light and life to the earth. Watch the video and take notes for class:
  • What was Nanahuatzin known for?
  • What lessons can we learn from his story?

Biology: All about Cells

Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo's colorful paintings and self-portraits that expressed her pain, identity, and passion for her culture. Click on each picture to look closer and take notes for class:

  • What symbols do you notice in her artwork, and what do you think they might represent about her life or emotions?
  • How do the colors in her paintings affect the mood or message of the piece?

Math recap: Fractions

Fractions represent parts of a whole. A fraction has two parts: the numerator (top number), which tells how many parts you have, and the denominator (bottom number), which tells how many equal parts the whole is divided into. For example, in the fraction 3/4, the whole is divided into 4 parts, and you have 3 of them.

Nice work!

Now let's practice

Let's get started with Python

Python is a programming language that lets us write instructions for a computer to follow. In this class we'll learn how to use:

  • Variables (to store information)
  • Loops (to repeat actions)
  • If statements (to make decisions).
Once you start, you'll be able to build your own projects and see how coding can be fun and creative!

The Sahara

The expansion of the Sahara Desert means that the desert is slowly getting bigger over time. As a result, the land becomes dry and harder for plants to grow. This process, called desertification, makes areas that used to have lots of grass and crops turn into desert. People living near the Sahara face problems like not having enough water and losing their farms, which can lead to them having to move to new places. Explore the map to see the landscape in the village of Taoudeni, Mali.
