Non-Honors

Teacher POV

The goal of many level one teachers is to sell the value of learning. " you know, I think motivation is a very complicated issue obviously as teachers we want students to be intrisically motivated yes sometimes we are left to no other device but to use grades as external motivators." Mr. Bergman an English, creative writing, and film studies teacher says this because he wants students to be motivated to do well, but sometimes he needs to add a little bit more reward for doing well.

Student POV

Freshman Annabelle Jennings who is in every honors class besides English says "I feel like in my non-honors class we dont do like as much work as in my other classes." Students such as Jennings' say they have an easier time managing work in level one classes. Students in both levels recommend to others that they should save the honors classes for the subjects they enjoy. Freshman Maggie Warner expresses how she "enjoys being in honors classes more because we can be productive but still have fun"

Workload

Students that take both honors and non-honors classes described that the workload in a level one class is typically less rigorous than that in an honors class. Students in level one classes continued to explain that they have an easier time managing their workload compared to those in honors classes. Freshman Peyton Vece who is in all honors class besides algebra says she feels that she has "I feel like I have a lot less homework from algebra and it helps me have more free time".

Behavior/Enviornment

The environment in a non honors class tends to start out a bit less out of controll and organized compared to a honors class "There is often more behavioral issues in level one classes, but after we've worked together for about a month or so those behavior things tend to go away." Mrs. Frydenborg says this about level one classes because it can take the students more time to become accustomed to the work
