Magnolias are flowering plants belonging to the Magnoliaceae family. They are part of a primitive group of trees and shrubs within the angiosperms and are found in temperate and tropical regions of Asia and the Americas, with nearly 350 known species.
In Colombia, magnolias grow into large trees, forming dense forests with emergent trees that help regulate the climate and store large amounts of carbon, playing a key role in ecosystem conservation.
MAGNOLIAS IN DANGER:
A CALL TO ACTION
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature
(IUCN, 2025), many magnolia species face an alarming risk of extinction:
Thanks to the support of Fondation Franklinia, several threatened magnolia species find refuge in our
Natural Reserves. These conservation areas not only protect these unique tree species but also preserve
the biodiversity that depends on them.
