The Green Monster Inside Me by Mia Once my water glistened and shone, The jewel of the water supply, my resources, my throne, Those days so far gone Now I lie dying, and none seems to care for my flora or faun.. Once I was the source of homes for many Now algae suffocates my precious friends and family.. The eels once a source of abundance for many, A centuries old trade lost with the drop of a penny.. Once upon a time the birds and butterflies played in my midst, Now they’re gone as pushed from an oozing cyst, The trees that I once nurtured now wither away, And I don’t know if they shall see another day.. Once I was treasured by all who lived by me, Those who I nurtured and those who cared for my Lucious sea, Now none seems to answer my plea To save me from the green monster polluting inside me.. My friends, my comrades, the young children of this nation, Do not allow for me to be forgotten, Stand up and today I do pray.. Allow me to live to see another day.
