Vehicle Text

Recap the Vehicle Text so far then read the next page, up to 'I looked straight into his eyes, and accepted his terms.'

What themes have we noticed in the Vehicle Text so far? Let's jot down some ideas on the flipchart. How would the girl be feeling at this point? What might she be thinking and what questions might she have? Do you think her actions and words truly represent her feelings? Why might she not want to show The Teller how she is feeling?

Teach

Let's look at the illustration of the girl and The Teller and read the text on that and the following page.

Drama Opportunity: Character Roleplay

Work in pairs - one child is to act as the girl and the other The Teller. Roleplay the scene using the text to help you with the dialogue as well as creating some of your own. The child playing the girl must try to hide her true feelings and act in a brave, strong, defiant way. Then swap roles.

Teach

Drama Opportunity: Character Roleplay

On this resource, note down ideas from the roleplay activity. Show the contrast between what the girl says and what she does. Use antonyms to emphasis the contrast.

Teach

I am going to model writing an inner voice paragraph.

Can you see examples of informal speech structures, hyphenated words, subjunctive form and semi-colons to mark clause boundary?

Teach

Write

Can I write an inner voice paragraph for when the girl meets The Teller?

Write

Use the word bank to help you with ideas.
