when do we use the past simple?
- To talk about completed actions in the past
- To describe past habits or routines
- To tell a story or sequence of past events
Examples:
- I visited Rome last year.
- She called me yesterday.
- We played football after school.
affermative and negative form
affermative form:
Examples:
• I watched a movie. • They played tennis. • He worked until late.
Subject + base form of the verb + -ed
negative form:
Examples:
- She didn’t go to school.
- I didn't go to the party last night.
- He didn't study for the exam.
Subject + did not (didn't) + base form of the verb
interrogative form
- Did + subject + base form of the verb+?
Examples:
- Did you go to the store yesterday?
- Did he play football?
- Did they arrive on time?
spelling rules:
irregular verbs
Some verbs don't follow the -ed rule.

- Go → went
- Have → had
- Buy → bought

Past Simple vs Past Continuous
