WATER CRISIS

Water covers 70% of our planet, and it is easy to think that it will always be abundant. However, freshwater—the water we drink, wash with, and use to irrigate fields—is incredibly rare. Only 3% of the world's water is freshwater, and two-thirds of it is trapped in glaciers or otherwise unavailable for our use. 1.1 billion people worldwide do not have access to water. Rivers, lakes, and groundwater are drying up or becoming too polluted to be used. More than half of the world's wetlands have disappeared. Agriculture consumes more water than any other sector and wastes a lot of it due to inefficiencies.
