AFFIRMATIVE FORM

We form the past simple by adding "-ed" to the verb. Here are some examples: My mother worked at the bank yesterday. I listened to the radio.

When the verb ends in "-e", we only add "-d" to the verb. Here are some examples of this: We arrived on time to school. They closed the window.

When the verb ends in "consonant+vowel+consonant", we double the last consonant and add "-ed". Here are some examples of this: She clapped her hands. They travelled by plain.

When the verb ends in "consonant+y", we substitute the "y" for "i" and add "-ed". (-ied) Here are some examples: He copied in the exam. She cried in the playground.

NEGATIVE FORM

In the negative form, we add the form "didn't" ( did not) between the subject and the verb. The verb doesn't change.
The boy didn't understand the lesson.

In the interrogative form, we use the form "did" before the subject. The verb doesn't change.
