Background information for the following resource: I based this resource on teaching a 3rd grade classroom with the thought of using Google Classroom with collaboration elements. However, I included information that would be important to know when starting to use more technology in 3rd grade as they should know how to use it appropriately. Essential Question: What does responsible online behavior look like?
Responsible Online Behavior
- Using kind and respectful language
- when posting or responding to a peer or teacher
- Respecting others' ideas
- you may not agree, but be kind in your responses
- Do your own work!
- Do not copy or share anyone else's work without permission
- Think before you post!
- Just like in the classroom, we need to think about what we are saying and doing (or posting)
- Think: Safe, Respectful, Accountable
- The same as our classroom rules!
What are some other examples of responsible online behavior?
- Keeping personal information private
- do not share things like your address or phone number without parent permission
- Be kind when online
- bullying online can be just as hurtful as in person
- Keep your passwords safe
- do not share these with anyone
- Only talk to those you know online
- Never talk to or meet someone you don't know from online
- Do you see something wrong?
- Tell a trusted adult! If something is making you uncomfortable or is not responsible, tell someone you trust.
When will I need to show responsible online behavior?
- When posting on Google Classroom or other approved platforms by the teacher
- When responding to a classmate or teacher
- When posting video responses
- yes, both video responses and text responses need to be kind and respectful
- Any time you are online!
- You may use technology outside of the classroom
- Always be responsible when posting and when you are online
- Be safe!
