Types of sport. Classify the following sports into the correct category
Permission We can use verbs such as 'can' to ask for and give permission. For example:
- Can I leave early today, please?
- Can we swim in the lake?
Obligation and advice We can use verbs such as 'must' or 'should' to say when something is necessary or unnecessary, or to give advice. For example:
- Children must do their homework.
- We have to wear a uniform at work.
- You should stop smoking.
Ability We use 'can' and 'could' to talk about a skill or ability. For example:
- She can speak six languages.
- My grandfather could play golf very well.
- I can't drive.
ProbabilityFirst, they can be used when we want to say how sure we are of something. For example:
- It's snowing, so it must be very cold outside.
- I don't know where John is. He could have missed the train.
- This bill can't be right. £200 for two cups of coffee!
Modals are different from normal verbs: They don't use an 's' for the third person singular. They make questions by inversion ('she can go' becomes 'can she go?'). They are followed directly by the infinitive of another verb (without 'to')

Vocabulary explanation
Sports are an essential part of our daily lives. They help us stay fit, improve our health, and make new friends. There are many types of sports that people can play, such as football, basketball, tennis, and swimming. People play sports either individually or in teams. Some sports, like tennis or running, are individual, while others, like football and basketball, are team sports. Sports can also teach important life skills. For example, playing in a team teaches you how to work with others. It also helps you develop leadership skills and learn how to support your teammates. When playing sports, athletes must be disciplined and focused. They also need to practice regularly to improve their skills. There are many competitions and championships around the world. These events allow athletes to showcase their talents and try to win medals or prizes. A coach helps athletes improve their performance and prepares them for competitions. Coaches teach strategies, improve fitness, and encourage athletes to do their best. Whether you are playing a sport for fun or competing seriously, the benefits of sports are clear. They help you stay healthy, teach teamwork, and provide opportunities to meet new people.
