2. BIOGRAPHYFernando III the Saint was born on August 5, 1199, in Monzón, a town that currently belongs to Huesca, Aragón, Spain. He was the son of Alfonso IX of León and Berenguela of Castile, which gave him a privileged position in the Spanish monarchy.
