What am I going to do?

Warm-up

Basically, you'll listen to a song and translate it into your language. 1. Before you get to the translation, you'll find out who the singer was and do two exercises to learn some of the terms in the song and find out about its main topic. 2. You'll visit a fun website to fill in the blanks of the song. There are different levels, so you'll choose yours. 3. Translate the song in pairs or groups of three in Google Docs. Proceed as usual. 4. You'll think about it and send a voice message with your thoughts. And a short written text as well by email. 5. Finally, you'll do a survey about the activity.

Translate the lyrics

Let's translate the lyrics, shall we?

The lyrics are on the next page. Once you know who your translation partners are, open a Google Docs and do it as usual. First, translate the meaning so it is as close as possible to the original text. Next, ask yourself: How would I say it in my language? Have in mind the message and who it is for. Share your Google Docs with me when you're done.

You don't own me I'm not just one of your many toys You don't own me Don't say I can't go with other boys. And don't tell me what to do And don't tell me what to say And please, when I go out with you Don't put me on display, 'cause You don't own me Don't try to change me in any way You don't own me Don't tie me down 'cause I'd never stay.

I don't tell you what to say I don't tell you what to do So just let me be myself That's all I ask of you. I'm young and I love to be young I'm free and I love to be free To live my life the way I want To say and do whatever I please.

I don't tell you what to say I don't tell you what to do So just let me be myself That's all I ask of you. I'm young and I love to be young I'm free and I love to be free To live my life the way I want To say and do whatever I please. And don't tell me what to do And don't tell me what to say And please, when I go out with you Don't put me on display.
