Real-life scenarios

let's start

Read each scenario and choose the best response based on the WAGGGS Communications Policy and guidance for personal channels and behaviour.
An operational volunteer has strong views about a conflict in another country where WAGGGS has a Member Organisation. There are two sides to the conflict, and the views and experiences of the population differ. It is an extremely sensitive situation, and emotions run high among many people. The volunteer decides to post on her personal Instagram account about the impact of conflict on girls and young women, and she shares her support for one of the sides, but tries to be careful not to say anything that might offend someone at the Member Organisation.

SCENARIO 1

A Regional Committee member is about to start a senior job at a company providing non-renewable energy. She is about to post about her new job on LinkedIn, where she is also identified as a Regional Committee member at WAGGGS.

SCENARIO 2

A WAGGGS employee took some photos on her personal mobile phone at a WAGGGS event where Girl Guides and Girl Scouts were in attendance. She did not follow the GDPR guidance for events to gain consent, and the event organisers had not done so either. She shares what a brilliant success the event was on her personal Facebook page with some of the photos without personally asking consent from participants who were in those photos. She takes no further action.

SCENARIO 3

A WAGGGS consultant does not have a WAGGGS mobile phone and uses their own phone to join a work-related WhatsApp group. They are posting about WAGGGS-related business in the WhatsApp group. They are wearing a t-shirt with a swear word on their WhatsApp profile picture.

SCENARIO 4

You are done!

Well done! These scenarios show how everyday choices can reflect WAGGGS' values—thanks for thinking it through.
