Economy:
  • The mixed economy of Nigeria is growing, propelled by oil but with other sectors including services, finance and manufacturing, rapidly growing as well. Nigeria's modernization attempts have been largely unsuccessful and hindereed by corruption and a lack of infrastructure. Agriculture has not yet caught up with population growth over the years, but there are signs of modernization and mechanization to aid growth and improve farmers' incomes. These days, the non-oil sector has driven growth for the economy.

Nigeria's Economy

Global influence:
  • Upon its independence, Nigeria was anticipated to become a global power, however civil war, corruption, and mismanagement have hindered this potential. Ultimately, Nigeria, despite being a leading economy and cultural point of reference in Africa, is challenged to convert this reality into power and agency. Using the diaspora, technology and leverage soft power could feed into surging Nigeria's regional and global position.
