TASK 1
Mia and Zoe are lost in the forest with no way to call for help.
Mia is afraid of heights and doesn't want to continue climbing.
Mia and Zoe are struggling to climb the mountain during a dangerous storm.
Mia and Zoe are arguing about which hiking trail to take.
What is the central conflict in the passage, and how does it create tension in the story?
Mia tightened her grip on the rope as the wind howled through the mountains. Rain pelted her face, making it nearly impossible to see. She and her best friend, Zoe, had set out on this hike hours ago, but now a sudden storm had turned the trail into a slippery nightmare. If they didn't find shelter soon, they'd be in serious danger. "We should turn back!" Zoe shouted over the wind. "No! We're almost there!" Mia snapped. She knew they had trained for this hike for weeks, but doubt started creeping into her mind. Was she being reckless? She wanted to prove she could do this, but was she putting them both at risk? Zoe crossed her arms. "Being 'almost there' won't matter if we get stuck or hurt!" Mia hesitated, looking up at the dark clouds. She could keep pushing forward-- or amidst Zoe was right. The decision could change everything.
TASK 3
1/3
Read the passage and answer the question.
She is worried about Zoe slowing her down and being afraid of the storm.
She wants to keep climbing but is unsure if she's making the right choice for her and Zoe.
How does it affect her decision-making?

TASK 3
2/3
Read the passage and answer the question.
Mia and Zoe refuse to listen to each other, which causes them to get lost during the storm.
Mia wants to keep going, while Zoe thinks they should turn back, making Mia questions her decision.
Mia and Zoe agree to split up, allowing them to escape the storm faster.
Both Mia and Zoe want to continue, so they quickly find a solution.
How do Mia and Zoe's differing perspectives influence the way the conflict unfolds?

Kai and McKenzie have been friends for years, and they've always dreamed of discovering the Lost Temple hidden deep within the jungle. Their journey has been filled with excitement, but as they face challenges, they begin to question their trust in each other and their own abilities. After several days of hiking, Kai and McKenzie arrive at a fork in the jungle path. The map they have doesn't make it clear which path is the right one. McKenzie suggests they follow the trail that seems more obvious, but Kai wants to take a different route, believing it will lead them to the temple faster. The two friends argue over which path to choose, and their disagreement causes frustration. As they continue their journey, McKenzie begins to doubt her decision-making skills and wonders if she's cut out for this adventure. She starts thinking about quitting, but Kai encourages her to keep going. Finally, they come across a broken bridge over a deep ravine. Kai wants to try crossing it, but McKenzie is afraid and insists they should find another way around. This time, McKenzie must decide if she'll face her fear and cross the bridge, or if they will turn back and find another path.

Sofia had been preparing for the regional science fair for months. Her project, which studied the effects of light on plant growth, was almost perfect-- until the night before the fair. When she checked her plants, she noticed they were wilting, despite being healthy just days before. Her experiment was failing. Sofia had two choices: 1. She could stay up all night trying to fix the experiment, hoping to make it work in time for the fair, but risk being too tired to present. 2. Or, she could present her flawed project, explaining what went wrong and how she tried to solve the issue. Sofia decided to stay up and try to fix the experiment. By morning, the plants hadn’t fully recovered, but she felt ready to present. When Sofia explained her mistakes to the judges, they appreciated her effort, even though the project wasn’t perfect. She didn’t win, but she learned that the process was just as important as the results.

As Mariah opened her locker, a folded note fluttered to the ground. Curious, she picked it up and read the shaky handwriting: "Meet me in the library after school. I need your help. - A Friend." Mariah's heart pounded. She had no idea who wrote it, but something about the words felt urgent. Her best friend, Lila, warned her, “It could be a prank. You shouldn’t go.” But Mariah couldn’t ignore it. After school, she hesitated outside the library doors. Was she making a mistake? Her mind raced—what if this was a trap? But what if someone truly needed her? Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside. To her surprise, she saw Alex, a classmate known for always being alone. He looked nervous. “I— I need help studying,” he admitted. “I don’t want people to know I’m struggling.” Mariah smiled. “Of course, I’ll help.”
