The 4C's that I picked
Learning to use technology is an imporant skill that needs to be learned.
Start
Summary
I chose the 4C's Creation, Consumption, Curation, and Connection because these are the four that I currently use in my classroom. These are also the ones that I feel meet my students where they are and help to push them.
Creation
Students will be able to show what they know, without having to stand infront of the class or take a test. If students struggle with public speaking, technology gives them another method to present knowledge in a creative way.
- Students can create:
- Videos
- Slideshows
- Games
- Infographics
Consumption
It was once believed that the internet and technology was only for people to consume wasteful information. While it definetly can be, it can also be helpful for students that may struggle with learning in class.
If students need additional help with class information, there is a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips, they just have to take the time to access it. For example: - Physicsclassroom.com- additional help for physics topics
Curation
I use curation the most. This allows me to put all course content in one place for easy acess for students, parents, admin, and any other stakeholder that might be in a student's corner.
- On the Daily Agenda in Google Classroom I put:
- Slides for the day that include notes
- What was due that day
- What was assigned that day
- Any additional help
- Upcoming events
- Everything from the entire semester is accessable in one place.
Communication
Connection is the toughest one for me in my classroom. While I think this is the most important one, I struggle with using it in my class. This would b good for students to work on lab reports together and be able to communicate their findings. My stuggle is when students are able to use technology in the classroom, many do not use it properly.
Conclusions
Technology is an important part of everyday society. Students need to be exposed to how it is used in the different curricular areas.
Most Excellent:
- Helps meet students where they are with comfort levels
- Helps all stakeholders access materials
- Encourages self learning when more explaination is required
- Students don't always technology appropriately
