Adjectives -ed / -ing

Adjectives: -ED vs. -ING

In English, some adjectives end in -ed and others end in -ing. They look similar, but they have different meanings! -ED adjectives ๐Ÿ‘‰ How a person feels. -ING adjectives ๐Ÿ‘‰ What something or someone is like.
๐Ÿ’ก Easy rule:

1๏ธโƒฃ Exhausted / Exhausting ๐Ÿ”น Exhausted = Very tired. (How a person feels.) ๐Ÿ”น Exhausting = Very tiring. (How something is.) โœ… "I am exhausted after running." (I feel very tired.) โœ… "This race is exhausting." (This race makes me tired.) 2๏ธโƒฃ Excited / Exciting ๐Ÿ”น Excited = Very happy about something. (How a person feels.) ๐Ÿ”น Exciting = Something that makes you feel happy. (How something is.) โœ… "I am excited for my birthday!" (I feel very happy.) โœ… "This party is exciting!" (The party makes me happy.)

3๏ธโƒฃ Bored / Boring ๐Ÿ”น Bored = Not interested. (How a person feels.) ๐Ÿ”น Boring = Not fun. (How something is.) โœ… "I am bored in this class." (I feel not interested.) โœ… "This class is boring." (The class is not interesting.) ๐Ÿ“Œ Be careful! If you say: "I am boring." ๐Ÿ˜ฑ โ†’ It means "I am not an interesting person!" 4๏ธโƒฃ Frightened / Frightening ๐Ÿ”น Frightened = Scared. (How a person feels.) ๐Ÿ”น Frightening = Something that makes people scared. (How something is.) โœ… "She is frightened of the dark." (She feels scared.) โœ… "That movie is frightening!" (The movie makes people scared.)

5๏ธโƒฃ Amazed / Amazing ๐Ÿ”น Amazed = Very surprised. (How a person feels.) ๐Ÿ”น Amazing = Very good, wonderful. (How something is.) โœ… "I am amazed by your drawing!" (I feel very surprised.) โœ… "Your drawing is amazing!" (The drawing is wonderful.) 6๏ธโƒฃ Interested / Interesting ๐Ÿ”น Interested = Want to know more. (How a person feels.) ๐Ÿ”น Interesting = Something that makes people curious. (How something is.) โœ… "I am interested in history." (I feel curious about history.) โœ… "History is interesting." (History makes people curious.)

7๏ธโƒฃ Disappointed / Disappointing ๐Ÿ”น Disappointed = Sad because something is not good. (How a person feels.) ๐Ÿ”น Disappointing = Something that makes people sad. (How something is.) โœ… "I am disappointed with my test score." (I feel sad about my score.) โœ… "My test score is disappointing." (The score is bad, not good.) ๐ŸŒŸ Easy rule to remember: ๐Ÿ”น -ED = How you feel. ๐Ÿ”น -ING = How something or someone is. ๐Ÿ“Œ TRICK: If you can say "I feel...", use -ED. โœ… "I feel bored." (Correct!) โŒ "I feel boring." (Wrong!) If you describe something, use -ING. โœ… "The movie is boring." (Correct!) โŒ "The movie is bored." (Wrong!)
