Adjectives: -ED vs. -ING

In English, some adjectives end in -ed and others end in -ing. They look similar, but they have different meanings! -ED adjectives 👉 How a person feels. -ING adjectives 👉 What something or someone is like.

💡 Easy rule:

1️⃣ Exhausted / Exhausting 🔹 Exhausted = Very tired. (How a person feels.) 🔹 Exhausting = Very tiring. (How something is.) ✅ "I am exhausted after running." (I feel very tired.) ✅ "This race is exhausting." (This race makes me tired.) 2️⃣ Excited / Exciting 🔹 Excited = Very happy about something. (How a person feels.) 🔹 Exciting = Something that makes you feel happy. (How something is.) ✅ "I am excited for my birthday!" (I feel very happy.) ✅ "This party is exciting!" (The party makes me happy.)

3️⃣ Bored / Boring 🔹 Bored = Not interested. (How a person feels.) 🔹 Boring = Not fun. (How something is.) ✅ "I am bored in this class." (I feel not interested.) ✅ "This class is boring." (The class is not interesting.) 📌 Be careful! If you say: "I am boring." 😱 → It means "I am not an interesting person!" 4️⃣ Frightened / Frightening 🔹 Frightened = Scared. (How a person feels.) 🔹 Frightening = Something that makes people scared. (How something is.) ✅ "She is frightened of the dark." (She feels scared.) ✅ "That movie is frightening!" (The movie makes people scared.)

5️⃣ Amazed / Amazing 🔹 Amazed = Very surprised. (How a person feels.) 🔹 Amazing = Very good, wonderful. (How something is.) ✅ "I am amazed by your drawing!" (I feel very surprised.) ✅ "Your drawing is amazing!" (The drawing is wonderful.) 6️⃣ Interested / Interesting 🔹 Interested = Want to know more. (How a person feels.) 🔹 Interesting = Something that makes people curious. (How something is.) ✅ "I am interested in history." (I feel curious about history.) ✅ "History is interesting." (History makes people curious.)

7️⃣ Disappointed / Disappointing 🔹 Disappointed = Sad because something is not good. (How a person feels.) 🔹 Disappointing = Something that makes people sad. (How something is.) ✅ "I am disappointed with my test score." (I feel sad about my score.) ✅ "My test score is disappointing." (The score is bad, not good.) 🌟 Easy rule to remember: 🔹 -ED = How you feel. 🔹 -ING = How something or someone is. 📌 TRICK: If you can say "I feel...", use -ED. ✅ "I feel bored." (Correct!) ❌ "I feel boring." (Wrong!) If you describe something, use -ING. ✅ "The movie is boring." (Correct!) ❌ "The movie is bored." (Wrong!)
