Late-onset group B streptococcus infection :
Early-onset neonatal sepsis :
Two types of infections :
- First 7 days of life
- Non-specific symptoms
- Presents with sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory distress, meningitis
- 7 to 90 days
- Presents with fever or meningitis
- Less fatal type of infection

- Test + -> antibiotics before delivery
- Others antibiotics: Intrapartum
- Baby--> monitored for 24 to 48 hours

Mechanism of Strep B
- Group B treptococcus or GBS, gram POSITIVE bacterium
- Gastrointestinal, genital and urinary tracts
- Most cases : doesn't cause any issues
- Is NOT a STI !
- Hand-holding, kissing, close physical contact, etc.
- 1 in 4 pregnant women carries GBS
- Transmitted from MOTHER TO THE BABY
