Escola Oficial de Idiomas de Ourense

  • In Spain, Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas (Official Language Schools) offer language courses and certifications for various languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Basque, Catalan & Galician among many others. Some schools may offer additional languages based on demand or regional interests. For example, in areas with large immigrant populations, schools may offer languages like Romanian, Russian or Spanish as a second language.
  • These schools are public institutions that provide language education to people of all ages, from teenagers to adults and are funded by the government.
  • The schools offer in-person, blended and online courses. Besides, workshops to maintain the level of studenrts, which do not requiere an exam, are also offered.
  • The levels of proficiency are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is an internationally recognized system. Here’s a brief overview of the levels:

25th ANNIVERSARY of European Programmes at the Official School of Languages

The Official School of Languages has marked 25 years of participation in European programmes in Ourense. Over the past quarter-century, thousands of students have passed through its classrooms. To discuss both the initiatives implemented over the years and those currently underway, we have invited the school's director, Nancy Casielles, and English professor, Alicia del Río.
