HISTORY
Tokyo became the first city in Asia to host the Summer Olympics and Paralympics, in 1964 and then in 2021.On 1 September 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake struck the city, and the earthquake and subsequent fire killed an estimated 105,000 citizens. The loss amounted to 37 percent of the country's economic output.
