Rules to use "ING"
1. Situations/actions happening at the moment of speaking or around this period of time
- I am talking to you right now.
- You are taking an English class
- someone is taking a shower
- the sun is rotating around the earth
2. Temporary actions or situations
- We are staying at a hotel while our house is being renovated.
- She is reading a fascinating book right now.
- They are traveling around Europe this month
3. Fixed arrangements in the near future (social engagements)
- I’m meeting Sarah for lunch at 1 PM tomorrow.
- We’re going to a concert on Saturday night.
- They’re having a birthday party for Jake next Friday.
4. Situations that are changing or developing constantly
- Technology advances rapidly.
- The population grows every year.
- The climate changes due to global warming.
5. Express anger (annoyance, irritation or criticism) about an action that a person does frequently. To give more emphasis we combine it with the adverbs of frequency (always, constantly, continuously)
- You’re always interrupting me when I speak!
- He’s constantly leaving his dirty dishes in the sink!
- She’s always borrowing my things without asking!
