Martin Luther King Jr., an, american baptist minister, activist, and a political philosopher, was born on the month of January 15th in the year of 1929 and was assassinated by a gunshot on April 4th in 1968 (39 years). King became one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 untill his assassination in 1968.Inspired by his cristhian faith and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi he fought against racism and advanced people of color civil rights in the US through the use of nonviolent resistence and nonviolent civil disobedience against Jim Crow laws (state and local laws) and other forms of legalized discrimination.

Martin Luther King Jr., was also a black church leader, he participated in and led marches for the right to vote, desegregation, labor nights, and other civil rights.In 1955, King oversaw the Montgomery bus boycott and later became de first ever president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).As president of the SCLC, King led an unsecssfull movement in Albany, Georgia, the "Albany Movement", and helped organize some of the nonviolent protests in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963. In the same year, King was one of the leaders of the march on Washington, and this was the moment he delivered his known "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
- Nobel peace Prize (1964)- For his nonviolent fight agains racial segregation and inequality in the U.S.;
- Presidential Medal of Freedom (1977)- Given by President Jimmy Carter for King´s contributions to human rights;
- Congressional Gold Medal (2004)- One of the highest civilian honors in the U.S., awarded by Congress;
- And a ton of more awards and over 50 honorary degrees from universities worldwide!(King was honored with a memorial and a federal holiday in the U.S., known as "Martin Luther King Jr. Day.")
