What are SLDs?
About the Project
Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs) affect how the brain processes information, making skills like reading, writing, and math more challenging for some people. This is not about intelligence or effort—it's just a different way of processing information. While SLDs can make certain tasks harder, many individuals with SLDs have unique strengths and bring valuable talents and perspectives to their communities and workplaces. Read more about:
- Dyslexia (trouble with reading)
- Dysgraphia (problems with handwriting)
- Dyscalculia (difficulty with math)
- Dyspraxia (movement and coordination issues)

About the Project
STRENGTHS
Quick Overview
What are SLDs?
Big picture Dyslexia can create good entrepreneurs and managers, as people can look past the details and focus on what really matters - and they've been doing it their entire lives! Communication Having to explain how you live with dyslexia, in a way that is easy for others to grasp, requires good communication skills. They can be characterised by empathy and warmth. Creativity Dyslexia often leads to creativity, trying to find other ways to solve problems, learn differently, or make things easier, giving people the capability to think outside the box. Design Strengths in spatial awareness and pattern recognition means they might design graphics, structures, even buildings, in ways others haven't considered. This often makes them groundbreaking innovators.

concerns the motor component of writing: the act itself is difficult.
So, writing can take longer and the end result may not always be legible.
About the Project
STRENGTHS
Quick Overview
What are SLDs?
Good oral memory Growing up with dysgraphia can mean they can’t rely on writing things down to memorise. Instead, they tend to remember what people tell them verbally, or what they hear in a documentary/movie/video. Problem solving Always trying to keep up with peers can be a life lesson. The need to be adaptable and to think autonomously often leads to finding creative solutions to problems. Soft skills They can develop the ability to read a situation and create consensus in a group. They can also be good at working as a team to achieve goals. Storytelling They can be good at story telling and engaging audiences. Writing as a way of expression is challenging, which is why they are often better at verbal expression.

Intuitive thinking Usually very intuitive, therefore good at face recognition, first impressions, assessment of a person, reading people’s reactions – nonverbal communication. Problem solving
Growing up is often not so easy with dyscalculia, and some become good at approaching problems from different angles. Their brains learn differently and can find creative and practical solutions to problems. Strategic thinking
Because they are often observant and reflective, they can develop a drive to understand how something works. This helps with reading situations and thinking of strategies.

What are SLDs?
Empathy Dyspraxics tend to develop an ability to understand and respect others’ thoughts or feelings; because struggling with things like coordination can make them more empathetic. Communication They can come up with different approaches to situations. At school, they may find innovative ways to learn better, and into working life they happen to see alternative paths. Soft skills They often develop skills such as active listening, empathy, and task delegation. Their desire for people to understand what they deal with often enables clearer communication. Strategic thinking
Dyspraxics may often have to navigate a mind which is unorganized and, consequently, can turn out to be very smart. Navigating around obstacles may result in creating effective strategies to overcome problems.

Dyslexia ...
a specific reading disorder causing difficulty in reading a text accurately and fluently. The difficulty may also affect text comprehension.

Dyslexia Dysgraphia Dyscalculia Dyspraxia
Dysgraphia ...
concerns the motor component of writing: the act itself is difficult.

Handwriting Spacing and spatial planning on paper, spelling, missing words, composing text and copying words, mixed handwriting styles that might be difficult to decipher, tiredness and pain after writing for a long time. Concentration Thinking and writing at the same time might be difficult or even impossible, therefore it might be preferable to concentrate on doing things one at a time when writing is involved.

About the Project
Quick Overview
STRENGTHS
What are SLDs?
Creativity It has been observed that dyscalculia promotes artistic or linguistic creative. Also, they tend to be good with words and social interactions. Intuitive thinking Usually very intuitive, therefore good at face recognition, first impressions, assessment of a person, reading people’s reactions – nonverbal communication. Problem solving Growing up is often not so easy with dyscalculia, and some become good at approaching problems from different angles. Their brains learn differently and can find creative and practical solutions to problems. Strategic thinking Because they are often observant and reflective, they can develop a drive to understand how something works. This helps with reading situations and thinking of strategies.

About the Project
Quick Overview
STRENGTHS
What are SLDs?
Empathy Dyspraxics tend to develop an ability to understand and respect others’ thoughts or feelings; because struggling with things like coordination can make them more empathetic. Communication They can come up with different approaches to situations. At school, they may find innovative ways to learn better, and into working life they happen to see alternative paths. Soft skills They often develop skills such as active listening, empathy, and task delegation. Their desire for people to understand what they deal with often enables clearer communication. Strategic thinking Dyspraxics may often have to navigate a mind which is unorganized and, consequently, can turn out to be very smart. Navigating around obstacles may result in creating effective strategies to overcome problems.

Interviewing Neurodiverse Talent
About the Project
Creating an Inclusive Process- Be patient and allow time for candidates to process questions.
- Offer constructive feedback post-interview, emphasizing their strengths and potential growth areas.
- Offer accessibility accommodations like extra time, assistive technology, or alternative formats for interviews.
- Share interview structures and questions in advance to help candidates prepare.
- You can suggest that candidates could prepare their own questions in advance, as often in interviews the last part is "Do you have any questions for us?"
Interview Environment- Choose calm, distraction-free settings.
- Use structured formats to reduce bias and support candidates who thrive in predictable environments.
Tailor Interview Questions- Focus on work-related problem-solving and strengths instead of hypothetical or abstract questions about mood or feelings.
- Example: “How would you approach a challenging project in a team setting?”
