1) List the two Barbies mentioned.
Mattel unveiled two new Barbies as part of its Fashionista line: Barbie in a wheelchair and Barbie with a prosthetic leg. Kim Culmone, Vice President of Barbie Design, told Teen Vogue that one of the most frequent requests Mattel received was for a doll in a wheelchair. In addition to listeningto its customers, the company worked with people with disabilities to bring the dolls to life in the most accurate way possible. […] Jay Ruderman, President of the Ruderman Family Foundation, which works to advance the inclusion of people with disabilities throughout society, celebrated the move. “Mattel’s announcement — is such a huge step forward. It is not only empowering for young girls with disabilities, but it will break down stereotypes developed at a young age that will help remove stigmas adversely impacting people with disabilities” […] . This is particularly important because people with disabilities are traditionally either underrepresented or misrepresented […] even though they make up 19% of the US population […]. “Kids need to see examples of humans that are different from themselves, but also be able to see toys, movie characters, and other figures that remind them of themselves,” Rachel Wright, a New York-based psychotherapist, told me. “If everyone can be represented, it creates a culture of acceptance, rather than one of ignorance, fear, and hate.” […] Maybe with the new Barbie in a wheelchair, future generations of children with disabilities will come to embrace what makes them different instead of feeling shame. Being disabled profoundly shapes a person’s experiences. It’s an important part of one’s identity, and like Doctor Barbie or Black Barbie, it should be represented and normalized.

Kim Elsesser, Mattel’s New Barbies Aim To Change Stereotypes About Women In Film, January 10, 2024 on Forbes.com
In a nod to the success of the Barbie film and director Greta Gerwig, Mattel has unveiled four new Barbie dolls featuring women in movie production careers. The move casts a spotlight on the persistent issue of gender inequity that plagues the film industry, particularly in roles off-camera.Progress has been slow for women in behind-the-scenes roles in film. A new report out last week from the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University revealed that women accounted for only 22% of all directors, writers, producers, executive producers, editors, and cinematographers working on the top 250 grossing films in 2023. That’s down 2% from 2022 and represents an increase of just 5% since 1998. According to Martha Lauzen, the author of the report and executive director of the center, “An increase of 5 percentage points over 26 years suggests a glacial rate of change and makes one seriously question industry pledges to achieve greater gender diversity.”Mattel’s new Barbies—a director, a cinematographer, a studio executive and a movie star—aim to change the gender stereotypes about these roles. “To show girls they can be anything, Barbie continues to take on culturally relevant and aspirational roles in fields where women are underrepresented,” according to a press release. Here’s how real women currently fare in each of these careers. Gerwig made history last year when Barbie became the first billion-dollar film with a female director.
