How to use
The aim of these activities to revise and reinforce the basic sentence structure with the use of THERE IS/THERE ARE expressions as well as DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS. The activities are designed so that ss learn to build sentences properly every time and think creatively as well. The set contains 2 blocks of activities both concentrating on correct use of the grammar structures. They can be assigned as homework practice with additional written activity or as a whole class fun activity for students.
This - that / These - those
* There is / there are
There are 16 sentences to complete. The ss see their sentence, the image and an arrow as a hint to complete the sentence. There are more words to pick from than ss need. After completing the sentence, the ss check if they are correct. Once the sentence is correct they can go to the next slide. Extra practice - The final slide contains all the sentences again, however, to complete at one go. Use it as a reinforcement of what ss have practiced or check if they have understood the structure.
There are 10 pages with different images that T may use to elicit ss' knowledge of placement and general description ideas. Each image hides elements for building a complete sentence. There are some elements which are distractors for students. The ss need to pick the correct words in order to build the sentence. The ss cannot pick any sentence they want, they need to follow one by one in order to complete full activity. Extra practice - Ask ss to write down all the sentences in their notebooks or ask them to pick the image and write a description. The images are available on the final page after they have completed the sentence making. The full list of correct sentences is available in Teacher's notes on our website.
