Many of the most important Italian traditions concern when children turn 18. At this age in Italy you become an adult....it is therefore a very special moment. In this important year, special events are taking place to underline the change:
- Maturity exams.
- The debutante dance.
- The conscripts.
INTRO
For all students it is the age when they take the final exams of high school, they are called "maturity exams". At the end of high school, the student is judged by a commission of professors to determine his preparation.

After these exams the student will be able to choose what to do...…for example he/she will be able to continue studying and go to university or start a job.

"The debutante dance" is the entrance into society of the girls of the nobility. It consists of a gala evening in a magnificent location, such as a Royal palace or a Royal residence.

It is tradition that the ladies' knights during the dances are the officers and cadets of a military school.

To celebrate coming of age, eighteen-year-olds organize a three-day party with their peers. Normally "the conscripts" organize a party in a disco, another evening in a dinner in a restaurant, and finally a party night in the streets of the town.
