Cricket

Born in England in the 16th century, cricket was initially a game played by children in rural areas. By the 18th century, it had become popular among adults and was adopted by the British aristocracy. Established the first official rules in 1744.

  • The game is played between two teams of 11 players on an oval-shaped field with a central area called the pitch.
  • One team bowls the ball (bowling), while the other tries to hit it with a bat (batting) to score runs.
  • The objective is to score more runs than the opposing team before the innings end.
  • A batsman can be dismissed in several ways, such as being bowled out when the ball hits the wicket behind them.
Baseball

Baseball originated in the United States in the 19th century, evolving from British games like rounders. The first official game was played in 1846 in Hoboken, New Jersey. Main Rules:

  • Two teams of 9 players take turns batting and fielding.
  • The objective is to hit the ball and run around four bases to score a run.
  • The pitcher tries to eliminate the batter by throwing the ball within a valid strike zone.
  • A batter is out after three strikes or if a batted ball is caught before touching the ground.
Rugby

Rugby originated in England in 1823 in the town of Rugby when student William Webb Ellis picked up the ball with his hands during a football match. It later developed into a sport with codified rules in 1871. Main Rules:

  • Two teams of 15 players (in rugby union) or 13 players (in rugby league) try to carry the ball past the opponent’s goal line to score a try (5 points).
  • After a try, the team can kick the ball between the posts for an additional 2 points (conversion).
  • The ball can only be passed backward, and players can advance by running or kicking it.
  • The game involves tackling to stop opponents.
Golf

Golf originated in Scotland in the 15th century, where players hit a ball aiming to get it into a hole in the fewest strokes. The first official course was established in St. Andrews, and the first rules were written in 1744. Main Rules:

  • Played individually or in teams on an 18-hole course.
  • The objective is to hit the ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible using different clubs.
  • Each hole has a par (standard number of strokes to complete it).
  • Different shots include the drive (long shot), approach (shorter shot to get closer), and putt (final shot on the green).
