PLASTIC IN THE OCEAN

COSEQUENCES AND HOW TO SOLVE

The Ocean

The ocean is the set of vast expanses of salt water present on the Earth's surface; it is a single and continuous complex, which surrounds the continents and islands and which includes most of the Earth's surface. The Earth seen from space appears as a "blue planet", according to the famous definition of Yuri Gagarin; this color is due to the presence of the oceans that cover most of its surface.

BUT

The Earth seen from space appears as a "blue planet", according to the famous definition of Yuri Gagarin; this color is due to the presence of the oceans that cover most of its surface. But this belief began to worsen after the 60s and man began to abuse it. By the end of 2013, an estimated 86 million tons of plastic marine debris remained in the world's oceans, assuming that 1.4% of global plastic produced from 1950 to 2013 entered and accumulated in the ocean.

THE CONSEQUENCES

Pieces of plastic can get stuck in the animals' throats or block their digestive tracts, which can block their airways and prevent them from eating. If young animals get caught in plastic, they can develop skin damage or deformities as they grow.

This problem exists everywhere, but especially in coastal areas where the runoff from fertilizers used in the fields ends up first in rivers and then in the seas. One of the consequences is the excessive growth of algae, driven by fertilizers, which consume the oxygen in the water causing the death of many living beings.

Chemical pollution

From plastic bags to pesticides...

IT'S A PROBLEM!!!

How to solve...

World Oceans Day was celebrated on June 8th, reminding us how important they are for life on our planet and how worrying the level of water pollution is. In fact, every year, about 8 million tons of plastic end up in the sea, causing serious damage to the marine ecosystem, ruining beaches and also constituting a danger for our health. What can we do to contribute?
Avoid disposable products
do not abandon rubbish on the beach
Don't throw waste in the toilet
