4. Safe to Pass When driving a large truck, you might already be aware that speeding up and overtaking another vehicle can be quite challenging. It can actually take up to half a mile to do so at highway speeds. This is why it's important to avoid passing someone out of impatience or anger. Take your time to assess the situation and think it through. Only change lanes when you are confident that it’s safe to pass.

3. Multiple Vehicles at Once If you find yourself needing to overtake several vehicles at the same time, it's best to hold off. Additionally, it's wise to remain in your lane if the vehicle you wish to pass is swerving or moving too quickly to safely get around without breaking the speed limit.

5. Use Your Signal If you choose to pass, be sure to indicate your intentions well in advance and check your mirrors to ensure that no one is overtaking you. Then, gently move into the passing lane as you increase your speed. Always pass on the left and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle you’re overtaking.

2. No-passing Zones It's advisable to avoid passing if you're approaching a curve, hill, or a no-passing area before finishing the maneuver. Additionally, it's risky to overtake when visibility is poor due to fog or when the road is slick with snow or ice.

6. Don’t Exceed Speed Limit Make sure to stay within the speed limit, but try to overtake the other vehicle as swiftly as you can. Only return to your lane once you’re a safe distance ahead of the vehicle you just passed, ensuring there’s at least a two-second gap.
