Movie Analysis

→ Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", published in 1597↪ Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet", realised in 1996 Italy's Verona ↪ United States' Verona BeachKeeps the text, modernise the context and characters

Context

Both play and movie : → Before Romeo and Juliet meet each other →After Benvolio recommends that Romeo goes to the ball ↪to get over Rosaline

Differences between the play and the movie :

→ Play : Said to dress with masks, they hide their true nature through it, no indication of Mercutio pushing Romeo, or strangling him → Movie : Costumes that reveal their true nature, Romeo’s romanticism as a knight, Mercutio’s exuberance and whimsical act, Mercutio is really rough with Romeo

Mercutio's attempt to calm Romeo spirals into the very chaos he derides
