Have you ever TRADED with a friend or family member?
The ancient Egyptians along the Nile were key in trade, exchanging gold, grain, and papyrus with Southwest Asia and the Mediterranean. They built ships for trade routes. The Phoenicians expanded Mediterranean trade, establishing colonies and trading purple dye, glass, and timber, while spreading their alphabet and culture.

The Berbers are Indigenous to North Africa, residing in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia for thousands of years. As skilled traders and nomads, they used camels to cross the Sahara, aiding trade between North and West Africa. They significantly contributed to the exchange of goods, ideas, and culture, maintaining their language and unique traditions despite many changes.

Later, the spread of Islam in the seventh century led to vast migrations, as Muslim armies and traders moved across the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and beyond. This spread not only religion but also knowledge in science, medicine, and philosophy, creating a rich cultural blend.
Migration played a significant role in shaping these regions. Various groups moved through Southwest Asia and North Africa, bringing new cultures, languages, and technologies.

The discovery of oil in the 20th century transformed Southwest Asia and North Africa. People migrated to the region to work in the oil industry, and trade shifted to focus on exporting oil to other parts of the world. This has brought wealth and development, but it has also led to political changes and conflicts.
Modern Trade and Migration
Today's migration is driven by various factors. Resource-rich countries like Saudi Arabia attract millions of guest workers who migrate for jobs. Companies hire these workers to address labor shortages. Guest workers, seeking better wages than they might make in their home countries, work in industries such as oil, mining, and construction.

The basic idea behind trading: giving something that you have to get a wanted item from someone else. In geography, the crops or items that are in one region may not be in another, so people had to trade to get what they needed. Some items that the United States trades with other nations today include oil, cars, and citrus fruits.
