What is a sustainable society

We have divided the topic into several points to analyze them one by one: - Environmental Responsibility - Economic Sustainability - Social Equity - Efficient Resource Management - Climate Action

Environmental Responsibility

- Protects biodiversity and ecosystems

- Uses renewable energy sources

- Reduces pollution and waste

Economic Sustainability

Supports innovation for green technologies

Encourages circular economy (reduce, reuse, recycle)

Promotes fair trade and ethical business

Social Equity

Encourages community participation and inclusion

Promotes education and healthcare access

Ensures equal opportunities for all

Efficient Resource Management

Develops sustainable urban planning

Encourages responsible water and land use

Reduces overconsumption of natural resources

Climate Action

Promotes global cooperation for sustainability

Invests in climate resilience and adaptation

Reduces carbon emissions

Connection with literaly text

The text we chose to connect was the book Robinson Crusoe, in which the protagonist tries to establish a sustainable society on the island where he found himself.

Connection with literaly text

We found some points that demonstrate the connection:

  • Self-Sufficiency & Resource Management
Grows crops (barley, rice) for food security, domesticates goats for milk and meat and builds tools and shelters using natural materials
  • Environmental Awareness
Avoids overhunting to preserve animal populations, uses available resources wisely to prevent depletion and learns survival skills from nature without exploiting it
  • Economic Sustainability
Creates a simple economy based on trade and self-production, ensures long-term resource availability through careful planning and develops skills to maintain a steady supply of food and goods
  • Social & Ethical Aspects
Establishes a moral code to govern his life, teaches and collaborates with Friday, promoting mutual respect and seeks balance between survival and ethical responsibility

Interdisciplaniry connection

Science and technology play a crucial role in developing solutions for sustainability by reducing environmental impact and promoting efficient resource management. Here are some key areas: 1. Renewable Energy Sources ⚡ Solar Power: Photovoltaic panels convert sunlight into electricity, reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Wind Energy: Wind turbines generate clean power, minimizing carbon emissions. Hydropower: Uses water flow to produce electricity, but requires careful ecological management. Bioenergy: Biomass and biofuels offer renewable alternatives to traditional fuels.

Interdisciplaniry connection

Here some other keys ideas: 2. Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production 🌾 Hydroponics & Vertical Farming: Efficient use of space and water to grow food in urban areas. Genetically Modified Crops (GMO): Designed to resist pests and require fewer resources. Precision Agriculture: AI and IoT optimize irrigation and fertilization, reducing waste. Lab-Grown Meat: Reduces deforestation and methane emissions from livestock farming.

How We Can Contribute to a Sustainable Society

Here there a some ways we can contrubute: Reduce, Reuse, RecycleMinimize waste by choosing reusable productsSeparate and recycle materials properly Save Energy & WaterTurn off lights and unplug devices when not in use Limit water waste (shorter showers, fixing leaks) Choose Green TransportationWalk, bike, or use public transport instead of drivingProtect Nature & BiodiversityAvoid using plastic and single-use items Respect wildlife and natural habitats
