Strong friendship

These six characters have such a strong relationship which we can rarely see in the real world. Though every one of them is completely different, with different backgrounds, different interests and passions, different jobs, and different classes they stick with each other without judgement.

Monica Geller 🍽️📏 : « Welcome in the real world. It sucks. You’re gonna love it”

She was played by Courtney Cox. She is the ultimate clean freak and a total boss in the kitchen, Monica is the mother of the group. She’s competitive, organized to a borderline scary level, and has a heart of gold . Once the chubby kid, she grows into a confident and ambitious chef. Her love story with Chandler is one of the sweetest in the show, proving that best friends can make the best partners.

Phoebe BUFFAY 🎸🔮 : « They don't know that we know they know we know. »

She was played by Lisa Kudrow. The eccentric and quirky Phoebe is a one-of-a-kind spirit. Raised on the streets after a tragic childhood, she somehow turns out to be the most “herself” person ever. She sings weird but iconic songs (Smelly Cat 🎶), believes in the supernatural, and has the most chaotic dating history. Her humor is unintentional, her wisdom is unconventional, and her heart is huge.

Joey Tribbiani 🍕🎭 : « Joey doesn’t share food !” or «How you doin’»

He was played by Matt LeBlanc. The lovable goofball of the group, Joey is a struggling actor with a bottomless pit for a stomach and a serious love for sandwiches. What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for in loyalty, and the best pickup line in history: “How you doin’?” He’s a ladies’ man, but his friendships (especially with Chandler) are his greatest treasure. He might not always get the joke, but he’ll always be there for his friends.

Ross Geller 🦖📚 : « We’re on a break ! »

He was played by David Schwimmer. Paleontologist, dinosaur enthusiast, and serial divorcé, Ross is a lovable nerd with a talent for making things way more complicated than they need to be. He’s obsessed with his career, and prone to shouting “We were on a break!” His rollercoaster relationship with Rachel defines much of the show, but his awkward dad energy, unagi skills, and terrible yet hilarious spray tan moment make him unforgettable.

Outdated references

Old technologies (computers, phones) which were amazing in the 90’s, but are very old for the new generations, and generate misunderstandings. 90’s culture : references, life style, which don’t really make sense today .

Homophobic, transphobic and sexist jokes

There are a lot of jokes about the LGBTQIA+ community, which is really represented by the relationship between Chandler and his transgender’father, who have a very complicated ond. But also between Ross and Carol, his ex-wife, who became lesbian.

Quoted and funny moments

Some quotes from “Friends” have become iconic and still resonate with audiences today. Such as Joey’s “How you Doin’?” become flirtatious banter or playful initiation for the conversation. Ross’s “We were on a break” And Phoebe’s songs especially the “smelly cat”.

Chandler Bing 😆💼 : « I'm not great at the advice, can I interest you in a sarcastic comment? »

He was played by Matthew Perry. He is the funniest of the band, with his sarcastic humour and his clumsiness. He hates Thanksgiving due to his really difficult family situation. He was working in statistical analysis, even if nobody really knows what it’s consisting of. After all, he is a very loyal friend.

Iconic characters

The show features 6 characters, each with their unique personalities and quirks. Chandler with his humour, Ross the amusing nerd obsessed with this paleontology and Dinosaurs, Joey childish and never shares food, Phoebe with a queer sense of humour, kind and crazy, Monica Mrs. Perfect who is crazy over cleaning the stuff and people pleaser, Rachel a fashionable, beautiful who cries easily over every tiny thing. Every character has a unique quality, flaws and crazy complicated life with which we can totally relate to ourselves.

90's fashion

The characters in Friends have shown iconic fashion styles of the 90s which continue to be fashion trends even today such as tank tops, baggy jeans, cargo pants and even their haircuts.

Real-life issues

Represents the real issues and problems of adult life. Like roaming the whole day for a job, doing internships, only ordering salads in Caffe because of money crises, the joy of promoting in a company or job, failed relationships, getting rejected, insecurity of never getting married and being alone, divorces and issues with family.

Rachel Green 💁‍♀️👗 : “You’re a shoe, you’re a shoe, you’re a shoe !

She was played by Jennifer Aniston between 1994 and 2004. She was born on May 5th 1969. She went from a daddy's girl to an accomplished woman. She always dreamed of working in a famous fashion company and she is really well-known for her outfits. Like most of the other characters, she has a great sense of humor and really likes her friends. She will be forever tangled in her will-they-won’t-they romance with Ross.

Lack of diversity

We can see only white characters, which, in New York, is pretty surprising. There is a lack of diversity, and a lot of stereotyping and body-shaming. Indeed, Monica is stigmatised for her weight, Rachel embodies the perfect young lady fashion obsessed and Phoebe is considered as a crazy girl.
