How do they ( conclusions, observations) manifest in my personal and professional life?
As of late, it’s helped me to focus on “why” I’ve adopted certain viewpoints. Such as because I was told as a child, taught in school, seen reinforced through media and or other social interactions.
Leads me to develop more sound conclusions by analyzing bias and assumptions from others and that of my own.

Final Decision
Study at Coffee Shop
As of late, I’ve been more productive studying outside of the home. I spend a lot of time at home as I do school and work online which limits my interactions with my peers unless I leave to do errands or other activities that can’t be facilitated via online delivery etc… I feel very accomplished knowing I've set a plan in action and have stuck with it. It's true test of the elements that test my resolve to prioritize my academia and health.

At Home
Pros
- Time with Dogs to ease their anxiety
- Multiple locations to increase motivation and focus
- Deck, Office, Living Room, Bedroom: Spend time with dogs to ease their anxiety
- Not spending money by eating out,if going to coffee shop
- Staying on track with dietary goals. Eating food at homeEasily distracted by lounging, tv, dogs
Cons
Distractions:
- Dogs barking, licking, destructive behavior etc…
- Extended study breaks: lounging and watching tv
- Doesn’t feel like professional environment
At Coffee Shop
Pros
- Fuels my productivity
- No dog distractions
- Get to spend time with Snowball, small chihuahua has to be sequestered when left at home due to size and not being trampled by other dogs at home
- Change of environment ( avoid “home distractions” outlined above)
- Social Networking: I’m always home due to my work and study.
- Try Variety of Teas and sweets
Cons
Extended Socialization: too much if opportunity presents itself
- Tempted to deviate from dietary goals
- Other dogs left alone for a few hours
Approach-Avoidance Conflict
Attractive:
- Improve Finances: to procure my resources such as medication, food, shelter, possible extra curriculars
- Build Confidence: Understanding math better and thwarting the voice of Ms.B in my head that confirmed how incompetent I was.
- Disappointment: My friend and her daughter could be disappointed in the outcomes of my efforts as they will directly affect her performance in school.
Unattractive:
Living Up to Doubts: I can live up to my insecurities and demonstrate failure with understanding mathematical concepts. Validate Ms.B’s assessment of my incompetence.
Foolish Aspirations: Believing I could actually be successful in understanding better and helping someone else in the same capacity.
Loss of Financial Stability: Not being able to procure my resources such as medication, food, shelter, possible extra curriculars due to this fear
Ruin: the friendship, Hurt her daughter’s confidence and academic progress
In Mountains
Pros
- Complete Change of Scenery
- Ride in ATV
- Deviate from Clean Eating: stay on track with dietary goals, limited food storage options and not willing to bring a lot of items with me
Cons
- No Changing Clothes: Already sweaty from early gym session, so no need to change as I’ll get dirty riding.
- Dirt: Have to clean up after studying
- Material Prep: Download information ahead of time in case no access to internet
- Plan specific assignments to due on account of limited internet access
- Distracted by Mountains: Want to continue exploring
- Bring Food: Protein shakes is most practical

Approach-Avoidance Conflict
- Disappointment: My friend and her daughter could be disappointed in the outcomes of my efforts as they will directly affect her performance in school.
- Ruin: The friendship and or hurt her daughter’s confidence and academic progress
- Living Up to Doubts: I can live up to my insecurities and demonstrate failure with understanding mathematical concepts. Validate Ms.B’s assessment of my incompetence.
- Foolish Aspirations: Believing I could actually be successful in understanding better and helping someone else in the same capacity.
Learning Ownership
I know that I have to rely heavily on my self-study skills. A professor will not always be available, and given the nature of my studies, the average person will not be able to lend much usefulness.
How & When to Study
This directly affects my success in acquiring new skills and my effective implementation, If I don’t apply myself correctly, my outcomes and feedback will not be truly representative of my skill sets. This could push me further from my goal.
Meaning Making
This has to be “meaningful”. Imploring Higher Order Thinking Skills challenges me to connect and synthesize information in a manner that is relevant to me. This opens up pathways to build upon prior learning and schema to increase retention. I am active in this entire process instead of being passive.
Approach-Approach Conflict
- Improve Finances: to procure my resources such as medication, food, shelter, possible extra curriculars
- Build Confidence: Understanding math better and thwarting the voice of Ms.B in my head that confirmed how incompetent I was.
- Unconscious Motivation: “Wishing” I were better at math
- Improve Friendship ( Social Motivation): Bonding over helping her child overcome a hurdle and explore confidence and improve academic success
Pacing
Excessive Information Intake: Having to take in a lot of information from multiple readings, videos etc.. for the week’s assignment
Multitasking: Reading and attempting to write the assignment at the same time to speed up the process
Time Pressure: Feeling rushed knowing there is a deadline based on the amount of work I have left as a result of what I’ve already completed and haven’t done yet
Distractions: It could be my dogs or tv to being consumed by my own thinking. In this instance negative thoughts on what will happen if I don’t get it done or disappointment in myself for waiting until the last minute.
Complex Tasks: In order to do an effective reflection assignment, I will have to take the time to process the content. Ideally, I like to take my time reading by taking notes and making sure I understand before moving on. This can make a 5 page reading turn into an hour or hour and half. By the time I’m done, I know I’m spent cognitively and need to take a break in order to continue studying.
At Coffee Shop
Solution
- Set Study Goals: Decide what to work on in advance and how much ideal progres should be made to stay on schedule and be productive
- Organization Options
- due dates
- estimated time spent,
- uninteresting topics,
- easiest to complete
- ones less likely to be completed at home, if needed to be
- Aides in over socializing
- Set Clean Eating Goals
- Bring protein shakes for at least 2 meals
- Order Tea
- Decide Meal Deviation: Is it wort using based on allotted ones for week
- Dependent on other activities ( socializing in Vegas during week etc…)
- Dog Time:
- When returning home, spend rest of the day with dogs lounging and or playing then I can retreat to bedroom
- 5+ hrs
Cons
Extended Socialization: too much if opportunity presents itself
- Tempted to deviate from dietary goals
- Other dogs left alone for a few hours
In Mountains
Solution
- Final Decision: I know better. I won't stay motivated and be more tempted to just off-road new and old trails. Also, I don’t want to have to shower twice and or stay in my gym clothes all day to study in.
Not a Conducive Option to my Goal
Solution to Cons: Study at Home
Solution
Cons
- Crave Study Diversity: Study on Deck ( overlooking mountains)
- Not Professional Environment: Study in office
- Use noise cancelling headphones and play binaural beats to drown on distractions of dogs
- Set Goal: Stay on point with study schedule
- Focus on activities I like first to stay motivated
- Cognitive Overload: Take consistent study breaks, not allowed to study such as eating and reading etc…
- Dog Room: If too distracting, can place in their room
- Ease Dog Anxiety: Have dogs study with me and or let out of room on study breaks
Distractions:
- Dogs barking, licking, destructive behavior etc…
- Extended study breaks: lounging and watching tv
- Doesn’t feel like professional environment
Curricular Leadership
I’m more aware of how my orientations affect my curricular choices in terms of selecting instructional methods, educational content and their implementation
- Program & Student Centered Approaches
- Assessments
- Culturally Responsive Teaching
- Scope & Sequencing
- Learner & Gap Analysis
Outcomes
Control Negative Learning Responses
Rewards
Finding a balance between my pros and cons and my desired outcomes limits the Hindering of acquisition and implementation of new skills and knowledge due to conflicting procedures.Reduced Performance
- Stay Home: I may be tempted to hurry up and work in order to leave to be at the coffee shop.
- Sub Par Work
- Increased Errors
- Loss Motivation
Emotional Response: Frustration & Resentment
- Become resentful of doing my work because now its seen as hindering me from being in a more conducive environment that still prioritizes my academy and simultaneously that allows me to satisfy social needs and business goals
- This stressor distracts me from working efficiently
- Make simple activities appear more “difficult”
Intrinsic: Makes me feel less lonely as a result of not secluding myself. Proud that I’m making professional connections to propel my desire to facilitate my own online/in person tutoring service. Exploring avenues to perform on stage again instead of only working on score study skills behind the scene.Extrinsic: As a result of studying outside the home more, I’ve acquired professional and personal connections as well as finding additional extra curriculars to be more engaged with the community.
