IS EATING AN EGG A DAY BAD FOR YOUR HEART?
REFLECTION
This topic is very interesting. Who doesn't eat egg almost every day? I'm a strong believer that "we are what we eat". If we incorporate vegetables and fresh fruits we will build a better immune system, but if we eat fast food almost every day we will impact our health negatively. How about and egg every day? we know that is high in protein, but also high in cholesterol, which can lead into a bad heart. Below i will provide information of my own research.
EVIDENCE
Another research from American College of Cardiology stated that:"a total of 140 patients with or at high risk for cardiovascular disease were enrolled in the PROSPERITY trial, which aimed to assess the effects of eating 12 or more fortified eggs a week versus a non-egg diet (consuming less than two eggs a week) on HDL- and LDL-cholesterol, as well as other key markers of cardiovascular health over a four-month study period". For this study patients were randomly assigned to eat 12 eggs a week. All patients were 50 yrs and older and had one cardiovascular issue in the past per the American College of Cardiology. Per the study results showed a -0.64 mg/dL and a -3.14 mg/dL reduction in HDL-cholesterol (“good” cholesterol) and LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol. According to this study, these differences weren’t statistically significant, the researchers said the differences suggest that eating 12 fortified eggs each week had no adverse effect on blood cholesterol. https://www.acc.org/About-ACC/Press-Releases/2024/03/28/11/43/eggs-may-not-be-bad-for-your-heart-after-all
Let's crack the egg!
Based on research from Mayo Clinic the cholesterol in eggs doesn't seem to negatively affect the human body compared with other sources of cholesterol. For instance, people add other food sources in addition to egg like bacon, cheese and butter. These foods are known to increase heart disease risk and should not eat them often. The Mayo clinic advises that an egg can be an option for breakfast or dinner. They advise healthy people can eat up to seven eggs a week without affecting their heart. https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/is-it-healthy-to-eat-eggs-every-day
