Belinda describes her favourite moment before a home game at St James’ Park:
"That ten to three feeling when you’re in your seats, the ground is filling up. The players come out, they’re playing the song Local Hero, and anything can happen in the next two hours. I just love that. That’s just like hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Local Hero is the one, that’s really exciting, and you feel like you’re part of something."
Christine has a routine when she goes to games:
“I get off the bus at Park and Ride, go to the same little man to get my programme. Sit, if it’s dry, read the programme on the bench. Then walk over to where my dad's brick is.
I have a photo taken of me and my dad's brick. I go see the brick, give a kiss, walk to my seat and then soak up the atmosphere.”

Jo has experienced sexist comments:
"If I have a conversation with a bloke about football, he says You don’t know what you’re talking about. Oh, I could wipe the floor with you man, with my knowledge and how much I’ve been, and how much I’ve seen, and the players I’ve seen. You can be the thickest bloke and you still think you know more about football than a woman."
Fiona has faced sexism at football matches:
“I do find sometimes where if I’m with my husband, and we’re talking to a couple of men somewhere, friends of his or people that we know, and we’re talking about the game... When I say something, they kind of look at me and then almost as if, Well what’s she talking for? I find that irritating. But of course men don’t expect you to be able to contribute.”
