Contracting Parties defined the PAP/RAC’s mission with their decision and that is to provide support to Mediterranean countries to ratify and implement the ICZM Protocol, as well as to implement the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD)
Data CENTRE
The Data Center is a technological infrastructure consisting of a set of web-based components, tools and applications. Its purpose is to improve the harmonization and standardization of data flow management, from the detailed definition of required data to the delivery of final information products such as reports or environmental indicators
The Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) assists the Mediterranean coastal States in ratifying, transposing, implementing and enforcing international maritime conventions.
It is conceived as a unique access hub to e UNEP/MAP (Mediterranean Action Plan) knowledge heritage. It is composed by a Data Hub, accessible through the "Maps" button, collecting geographical data in broader sense. The Knowledge Hub, accessible through "Library" button, collecting all the UNEP/MAP documental heritage, and an Exchange Hub aimed to enforce the cooperation with UNEP/MAP contributors, stakeholders, citizens, and communities of interests
MedWaves supports the transformation needed to address the global challenges facing the Mediterranean region. Over the last decade, the Centre has established a successful hub of expertise to serve all stakeholders, recognising that each actor is critical in the collective movement towards sustainability. Maintaining a focus on promoting and enhancing eco-innovative sustainable business models, MedWaves establishes an enabling environment for green, circular, zero-waste, low-carbon, and non-toxic economies to grow and flourish.
BCRS reporting
The Barcelona Convention Reporting System (BCRS) is the infoMAP module that allows Contracting Parties to report under Article 26 of the amended Barcelona Convention and several articles of different MAP protocols. The main objective of the system is to collect, store, manage and process compliance reporting data
Developed by INFO/RAC, aims to collect, manage and share data from monitoring programs under the Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Programme of the Mediterranean Sea and Coast and Related Assessment Criteria (IMAP) in the framework of Barcelona Convention
In 1976, the Mediterranean-rim countries and the European Community adopted the Barcelona Convention to protect marine environment and its coastal areas. The necessity to address collectively development and environment in order to build a sustainable future for the Mediterranean is already fully integrated by signatory countries.
NBB reporting
In agreement with the Art. 5 of the LBS protocol, in the late 90ies, Contracting Parties have adopted the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) to guide the formulation, adoption and implementation of LBS national action plans (NAP)
It is the virtual platform dedicated to training on Mediterranean environmental issues. Developed and managed by INFO/RAC it provides online courses and access to data and information from the RACs
The Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas (SPA/RAC) was established by the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols in order to assist Mediterranean countries in implementing the Protocol concerning Specially Protected Areas and Biological Diversity in the Mediterranean. Tunisia has been hosting the Centre since its establishment in 1985.
