A LETTER FOR FUTURE AUXES:

This is a little introduction to our school I.E.S. Mirador del Genil to give you some insight into what you can expect from your time here in Iznájar, Córdoba. First of all - CONGRATULATIONS! We can assure you that if you have the opportunity to be the next language assistant here, you will love your experience! Apart from the picturesque views and the incredible people, you will be fully immersed in a rich culture and vibrant lifestyle unlike anywhere else in the world. The best piece of advice we can give you is to be open-minded, do your best to speak (or learn) Spanish and relax - you are now on Spanish time! Everything will work out as long as you are prepared. This is why have included some helpful tips to ensure your arrival is as smooth as possible. Enjoy!

• Secondary school (ESO): 1st - 4th grade students and is the final stage of compulsory education in Spain
• Ages range from 12 - 16 years old
• Number of students: approximately 120
• I.E.S. Mirador del Genil promotes bilingual education to promote diversity in the Andalucían region.

There are many ways to get to school each day depending on where you choose to stay.

• Living in town, the cheapest and easiest option is to walk. Our school is a 15-minute walk from the centre of the town - just be aware of the steep hill on the way up!

Paco is one of our technology teachers. Born & bred in Iznájar, he knows everything about this town!

Eva is the head specialist of Therapeutic Pedagogy. She looks out for the students that need extra support.

6.1

The ROLE OF A LANGUAGE ASSISTANT:

• Your job is to assist the teachers in class with the students in English.
• This includes improving their speaking, reading and listening skills in bilingual classes.
• As a language assistant, you are sharing your language, the culture & giving the students insight into life in your country.
• You will assist four days a week (14 hours of class & 2 hours of Spanish formación)

• You will start either in October or January until the end of May

Life as a language assistant :

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE = YOUR LIFESTYLE WILL DRASTICALLY CHANGE & YOU MIGHT NEVER WANT TO LEAVE!!!

Here is an example of a typical day in Iznájar, Spain: 8:30 am - School starts & most stores in town open 11:30 am - Morning break 1:30 pm - Stores close for siesta time 3:00 pm - End of the school day 3:30 pm - Lunch time 4:30 - 5:30 pm - Stores re-open for the afternoon 8:00 pm - Restaurants re-open for dinner 9:00 - 10:00 pm - Dinner time!!!!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ROLE:

• The students are very well-mannered and already have a great understanding of English. You just need to give them more confidence to keep speaking!

• Every day is different and interactive. The town hall is very involved with our school, so there is always an excursion, celebration or extra curricular activity to be a part of!

• Being a language assistant is a rewarding and immersive cultural experience! The size of our school means that you can connect with the students on a much better level.

• You can make more progress in these smaller classes.

• You can be as creative as you like in the way you share your language & culture with the students.

WELCOME TO our town: IZNÁJAR!

Our school is located in the beautiful village of Iznájar in the heart of Andalucía. We are situated relatively close to the major cities of the region; within 1.5 hour drive from Córdoba, Granada, Málaga and Seville.

LIFE IN IZNÁJAR:

• Iznájar is an incredible place and was voted as one of the most beautiful towns in the region!
• The cost of living is very affordable, especially when compared to other areas in Spain.
• The climate is great if you enjoy clear blue skies and lots of sunshine, even in the colder months.
• Everyone in town is super friendly, and the sense of community is something special here.
• There are lots of breath-taking hiking trails in town and surrounding villages.

FESTIVITIES IN IZNÁJAR!

As part of the province of Andalucía, our town has many exciting celebrations all year round. You will get to experience special holidays and street parades for all the typical festivities of the region. Some examples below include Christmas, Carnaval & the parade for the three wise men!
