Emergencies can happen unexpectedly. You never know when you might find yourself in an accident, facing a fire, or dealing with a vehicle breakdown. It's essential to be ready for these situations, and the law mandates it. Federal safety regulations require that every commercial motor vehicle is equipped with the following items:

• A fully charged fire extinguisher.
• A minimum of three reflective triangles or other warning devices.
• At least one spare fuse for any essential electrical components that use fuses.

As part of your daily vehicle inspection, it's important to ensure that all of these items are present and in working order.

Warning Devices When it comes to warning devices, ensure you have a minimum of three two-way reflective triangles or at least six road flares that can burn for at least 30 minutes each. Additionally, if you have any electrical components or accessories mandated by DOT that depend on fuses, like lights, be sure to carry extra fuses to keep everything functioning properly.

Fire Extinguisher It's important to check your fire extinguisher regularly. Ensure it's fully charged and mounted securely in a location that's easy to access. Also, double-check that you have the appropriate type of extinguisher for your needs.
