Who were the Sufragettes?
The Suffragettes were women who wanted the right to vote. They believed women should have the same rights as men, and voting was one of the most important rights. To make people listen, they protested, and sometimes broke the law. Thanks to their hard work, women in many countries were allowed to vote.
The term suffragette was actually invented by men to make fun of the women that were fighting for their rights for votes, as they thought it was ridicolous.
The Suffragettes fought very hard for their rights of vote, and almost every country in the world allowed this, but not all the women were as lucky as them. Here's some examples:
- Vatican City: Women cannot vote because elections are only for clergy members.
- Brunei: Neither men nor women have the right to vote.
- Saudi Arabia: Women can vote in local elections, but not in national ones.
