George III (1760-1820): He was the reigning monarch at the start of this period. It is important to remember that during his later reign, due to his illness, the prince of wales acted as regent. George IV (r. 1820-1830) - The Royal Family George IV (1820-1830): He succeeded his father, George III. William IV (1830-1837): He followed George IV. Victoria (1837-1901): Her reign began in 1837, and thus she was the reigning monarch at the end of the time frame.

Mr Bingley and his guests go to a ball in the nearby town of Meryton. The Bennet sisters attend the ball with their mother. The eldest daughter, Jane, dances twice with Bingley. Within Elizabeth’s hearing, Bingley exclaims to Darcy that Jane is “the most beautiful creature” he has ever beheld. Bingley suggestsDarcy dance with Elizabeth, but Darcy refuses, saying, “she is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me.” He proceeds to declare that he has no interest in women who are hat he has no interest in women who are “slighted by other men.” Elizabeth takes an immediate and understandable dislike to Darcy.
