Try Again

Excellent!

All life depends on water

Water is a limited resource

Both--And more!

Why do we care about the study of water?

Try Again

Surface vs Groundwater

Try Again

Excellent!

  • Any body of water found above ground on Earth
    • Includes rivers, lakes, oceans, ponds, wetlands, human-made reservoirs
    • Can be temporary or permanent
  • About 80% of water used comes from surface water

Surface Water 101:

  • Found in cracks and spaces between soil particles and rocks
  • Can be found in large amounts that pool
  • Exists where soil is saturated next to or under a body of water
  • Myth: Aquifers are big pockets of water under bedrock

Ground Water 101:

  1. Swamp vs Bog
  2. Bay
  3. Spring
  4. Shoal/Sandbar
