A CANONICA

Villa Taverna è una delle più prestigiose dimore del patriziato milanese. Fu il conte Francesco Taverna, Gran Cancelliere del Ducato di Milano, a rilevare la proprietà nell’anno 1525.

CAMINI

Il camino più importante è quello del salone centrale, presenta, dal basso, due telamoni a maschera leonina impostati su una mensola a voluta, reggente il fregio decorativo superiore.

A sinistra l’allegoria dell’autunno, rappresentata da una figura femminile che regge una cornucopia carica d’uva, a destra l'allegoria della primavera, che sparge fiori da un cesto colmo di fiori.

A fianco della Villa, si erge la Parrocchia dedicata a Santa Maria della Neve, di origine cinquecentesca, rimaneggiata nel settecento e interamente costruita dai Taverna.

In Villa Taverna sono custoditi dei quadri del famoso pittore Francesco Hayez.

Chiesa di san carlo

A GERNO

La chiesa di San Carlo, o detta anche parrocchia di Gerno, è stata costruita intorno al 1200 come chiesa dedicata San Alessandro.

Nel 1571, la chiesa fu visitata da san Carlo e nel 1616 il sacro Elia Bernareggio con un testamento la dedicó alla visitazione della vergine Maria e a San Carlo.

Carlo Borromeo

Carlo Borromeo fu un cardinale e arcivescovo cattolico italiano. È considerato tra i massimi riformatori della Chiesa cattolica del XVI secolo, anima e guida della Controriforma cattolica.Negli anni del suo episcopato, dal 1566 al 1584, si dedicò alla diocesi milanese costruendo, rinnovando e promuovendo chiese, tra cui la parrocchia di Gerno che poi gli è stata dedicata.

MONUMENTO AI CADUTI

All’indomani della fine della prima guerra mondiale un comitato composto da ex combattentismi fece da promotore per la costituzione di un monumento a memoria di tutti i Caduti. Ottenuta, gratuitamente, dalle Madri Canossiane, l’area di fronte alla Chiesa Parrocchiale, dopo aver superato non poche difficoltà, si giunse nel 1922 alla inaugurazione.

Scultura bronzea raffigurante un soldato portabandiera nei suoi vestiti ufficiali. L’uomo è colto nell’atto di alzare la bandiera e il suo sguardo è rivolto verso l’alto, quasi stesse cercando i suoi compagni deceduti a causa della guerra e che ormai si trovano in cielo.

Il monumento è costituito da un basamento in granito rettangolare ed è innalzato di tre gradini di uguale dimensione, che conducono ad un’altra scalinata formata da quattro piani che costituiscono il basamento vero e proprio. Sui quattro lati del monumento sono incisi su strisce di bronzo i nomi dei Caduti in guerra.

Una croce posta sopra il viso di Gesù nella parte frontale del monumento. Gli spigoli sono decorati con sculture bronzee raffiguranti dei fiocchi e delle ghirlande. Inoltre decorazioni con figure floreali e geometriche addolciscono la struttura complessiva.
