FUNCTION:
Asana collaboration software
Asana is a collaborative management tool that can be used to manage tasks and communicate with your team. Asana can be used to:
- Manage projects and segment responsibilities into various formats such as lists or visual timelines
- Incorporate other district apps, such as Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Gmail and Google Drive, Slack, Adobe photoshop and Illustrator, and more!
- Collaborate with colleagues by commenting, attaching files, or liking posts.
EDUCATIONAL USES OF asana:
Educational tools from Asana:
- Lesson planning and content organization
- Assignment access and planning tools for students
- The notifications tab can update or remind students/colleagues of information by sending personalized alerts
- Administrative tools are available for monitoring school-wide goals, planning upcoming meetings, and managing multiple grade levels and subject departments.
Asana is a multi-use collaboration and management program that streamlines the tasks educators and students complete on a daily basis.
Asana
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES of asana
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
- The collaboration features increase communication among staff.
- Scheduling features allow for appropriate time management
- All collaborators can see the group's individual and combined progress on assigned tasks
- Available on Apple and Android devices
- Enhanced security for the user / team
- Sufficient for large or small teams
- For a new user, Asana can be an adjustment. At first, it is not a simple platform to familiarize yourself with.
- Like many other platforms, Asana is not available offline
- The free version does not include many of the essential features that are key components of Asana. The upgraded version is costly.
FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS
Filtering notifications
Asana notifies the user when content is added by members of your organization. While it is helpful to receive notifications regarding your tasks and projects, notifications could be automatically filtered to only relevant recipients to limit the oversaturation.
working offline
Asana is only available when connected to the internet. Since Asana is cloud-based, the user does not have the option to work offline on a device. Working offline would allow the user to stay productive without wifi and save their changes the next time they connect to the interent.
,mobile app efficiency
Asana has a mobile app for users to download on their portable devices, however it does not meet the same standards as the desktop version. This would be a signifant improvement, especially because users do not have the option to work offline.
My THOUGHTS...
Would I use asana in a professional setting?
Maybe!
I would use Asana if it was provided by my school or district. If my administrators decided to use Asana to manage the day to day tasks and responsibilities, I would gladly participate. However, I would not use Asana to manage my own professional tasks if my particular school was not using this program as a collaboration tool. I think Asana has many great features that are beneficial for a school community, but seems to overcomplicate simple tasks. Since my grade level team is smaller and tight knit, Google or Outlook calendar and Group Me are more realistic and cost-effective methods of communication.

My THOUGHTS...
Would I use this platform again?
Yes!
I would use the gamification side of Genially with my Pre-K nad Kindergarten age students. While this platform is not as accessible as some of their competition (For example: SeeSaw), students can interact with the content in a large or small group setting with support.
As I just recently learned about this platform, the idea of creating my own virtual tour is new to me! I look forward to utilizing this feature in the future to supplement our in-class learning time.
