Are we talking about climate change all wrong? With the proliferation of climate change conspiracies, annual "once-in-a century" weather anomalies, and not-so-natural disasters, the answer seems to be a resounding yes. Why are we so bad at talking about climate change?And more importantly, how can we be better? This course will examine the rhetoric of climate communication, from its oh-so-many failings to the genres that are emerging in their wake. We've been talking about climate change all wrong. This course will introduce students to foundational skills in legal writing. You will analyze judicial opinions and court briefs in order to craft persuasive legal documents and to develop an understanding of legal communication. Through the writing assignments, including memoranda and briefs, you will develop rhetorically-sound approaches to communicating about legal issues.
