WRS 231 - Advanced Writing for arts & humanities

Are we talking about climate change all wrong? With the proliferation of climate change conspiracies, annual "once-in-a century" weather anomalies, and not-so-natural disasters, the answer seems to be a resounding yes. Why are we so bad at talking about climate change?And more importantly, how can we be better? This course will examine the rhetoric of climate communication, from its oh-so-many failings to the genres that are emerging in their wake. We've been talking about climate change all wrong. WRS 233 - Advanced Writing for STEM

Writing in STEM fields requires being able to communicate clearly with both specialist and non-specialist audiences and demands a sophisticated engagement with data, original research findings, and existing scholarly literature. This course will equip you with the skills to handle these tasks and provide you an opportunity to practice writing in genres common to the science and engineering fields, including proposals, literature reviews, and presentations. WRS 331 - Legal Writing & Rhetoric I

This course will introduce students to foundational skills in legal writing. You will analyze judicial opinions and court briefs in order to craft persuasive legal documents and to develop an understanding of legal communication. Through the writing assignments, including memoranda and briefs, you will develop rhetorically-sound approaches to communicating about legal issues. WRS 332 - writing for civic engagement

Can writing be used to unravel societal knots? This course will explore civic engagement by addressing implicit and explicit issues within society that contribute to community conflict and concerns. Through a guest speaker series, combined with writings, readings and discussions, you will acquire knowledge and understanding of existing societal challenges that may be curtailed by effective community engagement, ultimately resulting in the growth, development, and sustainability of communities. Do you want to enhance your academic career with strong research and writing skills? No matter your discipline, this class will prepare you to produce well-written research papers and presentations.
