Student Creativity
PlayPosit's student creativity can be seen as a downside. The main purpose of the tool is for instructors to make content for the student. With that being said, creativity could come from integrated discussion responses to the lecture videos. Instructors could have students make their own content on the site which could be a creative element for the student. Allowing the student to make their own content engages the student in their own learning. Furthermore, instructors could have students make standalone projects based on the PlayPosit video. Creativity can certainly be made from PlayPosit. However, I feel it is mostly utilized as a content delivery system.
Interaction and Learning Styles
Interaction: There are varies modes of interaction that can integrated into PlayPosit. While students are interacting with the video content, there can be written responses for the students to complete. The written interaction can be with the content or peer-to-peer discussion posts. Also, interaction with class polls or questions furthers the student's engagement. Learning Styles: PlayPosit offers ways to embed content within the learning modules to offer other ways for the student to learn. With the main video, the instrutor can directly embed articles or passages for students to read. Also, the instructor can embed closed captions or a transcript to the video if the learner does better with written instruction.
Help on PlayPosit
Within the website, there is a help forum for anything from billing to creation troubleshooting. The help section can help you solve issues or even teach you new ways to produce the content. Some pages even offer external articles to further explain a topic needed for help. If the forum does not answer the question, PlayPosit has an online form that can be filled out and sent to a human representative of the company.
Accessibilty of PlayPosit
PlayPosit is avaible on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, and Firefox. However, PlayPosit reccomends running the site on Google Chrome for maximum effeciency.
Installation of PlayPosit
Nothing has to be installed to use PlayPosit. PlayPosit is a web-based tool. Access to internet, device's camera, and the device's microphone is the only thing needed
LMS Integration
PlayPosit can be integrated into an existing LMS. Integrating it makes it easier for students to access the content and for the instructor to update graded work through the site.
PlayPosit Archive
PlayPosit offers 30 hours a month of publishing time and 150GB of storage within the website. Only Instructors can export videos to an external file such as a mp4 in Standard HD. For the most part, the videos and content stay on the site.
PlayPosit Personal Data Protection
Although there is not any explicit privacy features stated within the description of PlayPosit, their Privacy Policy states, "We take precautions to maintain the security and integrity of personal information you submit to the Service, including storage of your profile and personal information on a secure server behind a firewall". However, if the instructor chooses to link PlayPosit through the schools LMS, it does allow for PII blockers. Instead of sharing a student's name and email, it will assign them a number identifier. The downside to this is the instructor no longer sees the exact names interacting with their PlayPosit content
Price of PlayPosit
The pricing for PlayPosit depends on the type of package. To start, only K-12 package prices are available online, while higher ed and business have to be through a sales representative. For a teacher that just wants to strictly make videos for external use, the package costs $89/year. For teachers that want their students to access the content through the website and use the features to the fullest, PlayPosit costs $374/year. If the classroom is bigger than 30 students or an entire district wants to buy PlayPosit, a special quote is needed.
Tracking Work
Tracking work is incredibly simple for the instructor. The insturctor can see what questions an individual student missed or create statistics to show what were common missed questions. Furtheremore, PlayPosit has options between automatic and manual grading. For questions like multiple choice, check all, or fill in the blank, PlayPosit can auto grade the answers. If the teacher assigns open ended questions or discussion forums, they will have to be manually graded If synced up with the instructors LMS, the auto graded questions can be easily updated to the gradebook.
PlayPosit Intro:
PlayPosit is a video design studio that allows the insturctor or student to make instructional videos that are interactive. The videos contain class content, while offering real-time quizzes or pop ups during the video.
Overall Effectiveness
Opinion: Very Effective
PlayPosit would be a very effective tool to integrate in a virtual classroom. Instead of just giving students a link to a Youtube video, instructors can create "follow along" modules for students. The students can use the interactive quizzes and discussion posts to further their engagement with the content. PlayPosit also allows for the embedding of external content such as articles right nect to the video so students can seamlessly gather information in one place.
Student Creativity
Thinglink provides tremendous opportunities for the learner to be creative. The whole platofrm is based around designing virtual presentations, images, or videos with interactive elements within them. For example, a student may choose to make a info-picture. While students are breaking down the image into parts and describing the background of each element of the picture, they are learning the content in an egnaging but creative way. Students can also make escape or point and click games that allow them to be creators of gamification learning. The same thing can be said while students make their own AR projects, gamifying learning.
Overall Effectiveness
Opinion: Fairly Effective
Thinglink is a fairly effective tool to use in a virtual classroom. I think an instructor can utilize it to a great degree especially with creating landing pages for the students. However, from the student's point of view, there could be better options. First, the interaction modes are mostly limited to only visual. Secondly, creating some of the projects like an escape room would be very time consuming. As we learned, the more time consuming a project is in a virual class, the less engaged a student may be. Lastly, the learning curve for some of the design elements may be too hard or time consuming to teach without in-person / real-time instruction.
Interaction and Learning Styles
Interaction: Most of Thinglink's interaction is visual based. However, the creator can add commentary to read a passage on the screen, or over an image to further describe what the image is about. Learning Styles: Again, Thinglink caters mostly to the visual learning style. The tool is mean to create interactive images like presentations all the way to AR.
Help on Thinglink
Within the packages, Thinglink offers different levels of support. As seen in the picture, the basic packages do not offer a lot of support.
