Green Thumbs Club Summer Trip!

Where are we going?
We are traveling to the state of Iowa with three planned stops during the trip - all centered around horticulture!

Day 5 - continued
Thursday, July 31st Travel from Des Moines, IA to Decorah, IA
We'll leave the conference after lunch (around 1pm) and travel from Des Moines, IA to Decorah, IA - about 3 hours and 20 minutes. Then we will go to Feast at the Farm at Plant Peddlers this evening.

Plant Peddler Variety Day
Variety Day: Experience, Educate, Enjoy! You are invited to join us! This is our opportunity to bring the industry together: All horticulture professionals in production, distribution, wholesale, retail, landscape, and allied trades are invited. For you and your team, this complimentary day full of genetics, breeders, seminars, tours, food, and networking awaits you. Evaluate the Trial Gardens and search out the best vegetative annuals from our global array of breeders and farms. Be educated by leading authorities on current industry topics. Tour and interact with a community of professionals. An outstanding opportunity to explore, expand, educate, and exchange ideas.

Saturday, August 2nd
We'll end our trip with a visit to Seed Savers We will leave our hotel around 9:00 am About Seed Savers Exchange We're a nonprofit that conserves and promotes America's culturally diverse but endangered garden and food crop heritage for future generations by collecting, growing, and sharing heirloom seeds and plants. The Exchange is one way we involve our community in fulfilling this mission.
Day 7 - Continued
Travel Home We'll have lunch and then head from home. Travel from Decorah IA to Kenosha is estimated at 4 1/2 hours so we should arrive in Kenosha around 5pm.

How Much Does it cost?
Any current student enrolled in horticulture classes or students who are graduating this Spring 2025.
We are applying for some additional funding and we are anticipating using funds from our event sales from this year. At this time, we are estimating that eligible students will only need to cover their own food costs during the trip. Lunch & Dinner - Day 1 Dinner - Day 2 Dinner - Day 6 Breakfast & Lunch - Day 7 Plus any other souvenirs, miscellaneous expenses.
Volunteer requirement
You MUST have a minimum of 8 hours of voluneering at Green Thumbs events (or leadership) during the 2024-25 school year. This includes event sales, set up or other GGT events. These 8 hours must be completed on or before June 30th.
You must commit with a deposit
In order to make all of the reservations and plans, we need students to decide and commit by registering with a deposit of $200
Additional Info You Should Know
- You will need to share a room with another student of the same gender
- We will travel in school vans
- Space in the vans will be limited - you will be limited to 1 suitcase
- All school conduct rules and policies apply while you are on this trip
- Horticulture instructors will be in charge during this trip
- Itinerary and times are approximate at this time - subject to change until final arrangements are made
- If you have difficulty with the volunteering requirement - you should speak to Natalie Kostman about alternative options.
How do I register? When are the deadlines?
- Registration begins today: March 4th and ends at midnight on March 16th.
- You MUST submit either $200 cash or a check to Natalie on or before 5:00 p.m. on March 18th to hold your registration. If you attend the trip - you will receive your deposit back.
