Mission accomplished!

The Supreme Court ruled that Nixon had to turn over the tapes. People now demanded that the President be impeached. To impeach the President is to accuse him or her of wrongdoing, Three articles of impeachment were brought against Nixon. The tapes proved Nixon had known about the Watergate break-in and had ordered the cover-up. Instead of waiting for the House of Representatives to vote on impeaching him, Nixon resigned from office. On August 9, 1974, Vice President Gerald R. Ford took the oath of office and became President. Ford later pardoned Nixon for his crimes.
